State Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer has picked up two new endorsements with some historical significance this week.
The Duluth-based legislator was endorsed by Fletcher Thompson and Ben Blackburn, two of Georgia’s first Republican congressmen since the Reconstruction. Thompson and Blackburn were elected in 1966 to represent the Fifth and Fourth Congressional Districts respectively.
“David Shafer is an honest and capable public servant,” Thompson said. “He has done an excellent job in the state Senate and will make an outstanding Lieutenant Governor.
I am happy and proud to endorse him.” Blackburn said: “David Shafer is a longtime Republican with an outstanding record of service and accomplishment. He is running an impressive campaign for lieutenant governor, and I am proud to endorse him.”
